Thinking about hiring a graphic designer?

To get the best results, it’s not just about choosing the right designer – it’s also about how you brief them.

Here are six tips to ensure your designer can deliver exactly what you’re looking for:

  • Try to find one you gel with and have an introductory meeting. Most will offer this as a complimentary service.

  • Before your first meeting, note down your business purpose and direction. Gather information on competitors such as their website, location, etc.

  • At your meeting, brainstorm words to describe your business, say who your audience is, their demographic, business size, entity and so on.

  • Show your designer any material you already have and find examples of logos, images or colours you like.

  • Make sure you agree on a budget and timeframe so you know where you stand and what you should expect before any work begins.

  • Hiring a graphic designer may seem like a large investment, but there is no guarantee of recouping that investment. However, do remember that it can be wise to outsource if you don’t have the time to spend learning a new skill.
